Facebook is making it possible for apps to work in your smartphone. That means that appstore or the android market gets a competitor (although not directly perhaps). Facebook claimed to still be at the beginning of bringing apps and games to the mobile application and claim that they will evolve through time. At Britny we hope that they will develop along with those who develop the applications and games instead of trying to lead the way. Because if they do, Facebook might have a solution for all those companies that want to have a mobile application but lack the funds or knowledge to produce one or to those who want to give their Facebook page some edge with some mobile usability. If it affects the way or amount of time people use normal applications though, that remains to be seen.

To most people banners are a nuisance. They don’t add value to the Internet experience; it’s more likely that it’s the other way around. However sometimes banners actually add value. Our second thing is a interactive banner for the Opel Movano that, just like the car itself, lets you store and send items to others. Commercial banners is one of the most recognized ways of digital advertising despite that there has been little to no development in the creative factor in our opinion. The technological aspects have advanced however not to the point that one might have hoped or guessed. Which in a way might have hindered the development of banners in the future, as most companies might be afraid to do more than “just” buy banner space. This means that there is room for someone to break the norm, those who dare, do.

Last Thursday we went to the Hyper Island expo ‘Work hard, play hard’ which was a really nice experience for everyone that came along. The overall opinion was that the level of creativity and innovation was really high, especially since the students started at HI only a couple of months ago. Here are some voices from us at Britny:
“Everything was so well organized, especially if you consider that they started school only a couple of months ago. The organization really raised expectations and mostly they were fulfilled” – Developer, Per Arnborg
“The most impressing thing to me is the fact that the students do all the management themselves. The fact that they can find investors and sponsors in such a short period of time shows that there isn’t just talent at Hyper Island, there is also students who are ready to do the things that might be considered ‘boring’ to get their projects going” – Project manager, Tobias Persson
I thought everything was really good, from the installations to the workshops. One thing that stood out though was the motion graphics, especially the one with the pillow fight in it. Watch it here:
